
Sports complex rail, roads racing to the finish line (Mon, 17 Nov 2008 05:00:00 GMT)

While much of the North Jersey economy sputters, work on transportation improvements surrounding the Meadowlands Sports Complex continues to speed along.
At least $400 million in public and private funds is being spent on a rail link, a half-dozen roadway projects and sports complex service road improvements that all are scheduled to be finished by mid-2010.
The last pieces of railroad track are being laid for a Pascack Valley Line extension into the sports complex, and five of the six road projects are under way.

The Meadowlands Chamber of Commerce has reached another milestone in its effort to create a well-funded, vigorous marketing bureau to woo tourists to the area. A national organization that evaluates the quality of tourist bureaus has accredited the chamber-operated Meadowlands Liberty Convention Bureau, officials said.
Destination Marketing Association International, a Washington-based trade group, told the bureau it had been certified in a Nov. 10 letter. The accreditation is valid for four years.
