Meadowlands 2040 Council

The Meadowlands Regional Chamber has established an economic development “think tank” called the Meadowlands 2040 Council which is comprised of C-Suite level business leaders and academics along with members from our Board of Directors. This is a direct action stemming from a series of very successful Economic Development Executive Roundtable sessions held during the last few years. The mission of this initiative is to provide a business perspective and a long term vision to plan for a growing and sustaining economy through the year 2040.

While this will be an ongoing process, we presented our initial findings to Governor Christie upon his inauguration and will continue to update his administration.  The Meadowlands 2040 Council will meet 3-4 times per year and will be supported by ongoing activity of the MRC’s Public Affairs Committee and sub-committees.

The “Meadowlands 2040 Council” will focus its attention on 3 specific priority items consistent with MRC strategic planning focus:

  1. Economic impacts on the region from the Meadowlands Sports & Entertainment Complex:
Working with NJSEA to advocate a vision that advances all of the individual complex components.

IZOD Center: a critical working component of the complex that is perfectly synergistic with the other developing components.  We need to remove any discussions about IZOD’s demise and help drive corporate support of the facility as a world class entertainment venue.
American Dream Meadowlands: has enormous business opportunities that have a ripple effect, and is a perception changer for the region, so we need to help establish a positive image.
The Meadowlands Racetrack: an aged but very viable facility that needs new thinking. Slots … retrofitted facility…an opportunity for new product development here.
The MetLIfe Stadium: opened in 2010. This facility will attract world renowned events, great media attention and millions of people.
  2. Transportation & Road Infrastructure Projects and Planning:
Mobility is the key to improved economic development opportunities. The MRC needs to continue its leadership role in bringing all transportation policy makers together to insure implementation of road and mass transit priority upgrades.
  3. NJMC Master Plan Review and advancement of policy leading to a Sustainable Meadowlands:
Review of current regulations to meet current market conditions and encourage future demand.
